What items are permitted for waste disposal?

Generally, our Philadelphia waste management company can accept most solid, non-hazardous materials for disposal. The same rules apply to dumpster rental, dumpster bag pickup, and anything dropped off at our transfer station. Examples of materials we can accept include:

  • Household debris: Carpet, furniture, mattresses, laminate, tile or vinyl flooring; bath fixtures, such as tubs, showers, sinks and toilets, etc.
  • Construction debris: Concrete, cement, masonry, wood, metal, insulation, drywall, roof shingles, glass, etc.
  • Recyclables: Wood, paper, cardboard, scrap metal, asphalt, concrete, etc.
  • Clean Fill: Unpainted concrete, stone, rock, dirt or asphalt – there can be zero trash, or biodegradable material like wood, grass or brush
  • Paint: Any type of completely dried paint.
  • Electronics: Microwaves, televisions and computers (please call for details)

What items are not permitted for waste disposal?

There are several materials that we cannot accept for waste disposal. These materials include:

  • Toxic or hazardous waste, including biomedical or infectious waste
  • Fluorescent tubes
  • Flammable, explosive, or chemical materials
  • Aerosol cans or propane tanks
  • Motor oils, lubricants, antifreeze, or refrigerants
  • Pesticides, solvents, or paints (except latex paint that is completely dried to solid)
  • Batteries
  • Liquids or Food

Please note that this is not a complete list – we reserve the right to refuse any materials that we believe will not adhere to local regulations. If you have any questions about what materials can and cannot be disposed of, please do not hesitate to contact us. One of our friendly team members would be more than happy to answer your questions.

What is your dumpster rental period?

In general, our dumpster rental contracts are 7 days. However, we can work with you to adjust the terms of your contract if you need the dumpster for a longer or shorter period of time. Just let us know when you contact us for a quote and we can discuss your options.

How much waste can I put in a dumpster?

Each dumpster is designed to hold a certain volume. This amount can weigh more or less depending on the materials. Waste like concrete and masonry can weigh more than paper or cardboard, but they can take up the same amount of space in the dumpster.

For your convenience, every dumpster has a fill line that indicates the maximum amount of material it can hold. Our dumpster rental contracts stipulate that waste does not exceed the dumpster’s fill line. Exceeding the tonnage in your contract can incur overages. In order to reduce unexpected charges, we offer various pricing options and flexible packages.

Do I need a permit to rent a dumpster?

You may need a permit from your local municipality in order to place a dumpster on the street or in a driveway. Permit regulations vary from town to town, so be sure to check with your municipality before renting your dumpster. It is the responsibility of the customer to obtain and pay for any necessary permits prior to dumpster delivery. No refunds will be issued for delays caused by non-compliance.  Fines for non-compliance with local ordinances are the responsibility of the consumer.

Can a dumpster damage my driveway?

Residential driveways are usually not built to support the weight of industrial equipment like roll off dumpsters. Dumpsters do have the potential to damage driveways, and the customer assumes all liability for damage to private driveway surfaces. However, we will do everything we can to minimize the risk of damage to your driveway, and we have found that damage is very rare. Dumpsters can also be placed on the street, but please check with your local municipality regarding any regulations or permit requirements.

How should I prepare for my dumpster delivery?

We will need unobstructed access to deliver your dumpster and place it in the area of your choosing. To facilitate your delivery process, please make sure that the area is clean and clear of any debris. If your local municipality requires a permit for your dumpster, please be sure that you have obtained it before your delivery.

Can you refill propane tanks?

At DGR Recycling, we have an onsite propane refilling station that is open to residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural clients. You can refill propane tanks for vehicles like RVs, campers, BBQ grill tanks, propane forklift tanks, and more. We offer the area’s most competitive prices for propane by the gallon during our hours of operation. If you have any questions about our propane refilling station, please contact us.
