“How Much waste can I put in a dumpster” – Weight is regulated by DOT – we cannot exceed our trucks’ GVWR. Concrete/dirt etc SHOULD not be mixed unless it’s a few yards or less, but mixing any trash with a “clean fill” container will cost potentially $1000-$1500 extra. Any concrete or clean fill disposal should be discussed in advanced to be sure that you are not wasting money.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What can I put in a roll off dumpster?
When it comes to our roll off dumpsters, most solid, non-hazardous materials are fair game. Some of the acceptable items include:
- Household debris: Carpet, furniture, mattresses, laminate, tile or vinyl flooring; bath fixtures like tubs, showers, sinks, & toilets
- Unpainted concrete, stone, rock, dirt or asphalt – there can be zero trash, or biodegradable material like wood, grass or brush in a clean fill container. Trash or biodegradable material is only accepted in regular trash dumpsters.
- Construction debris: Concrete, cement, masonry, wood, metal, insulation, drywall, roof shingles, glass
- Recyclable materials: Wood, paper, cardboard, scrap metal, asphalt, concrete
- Paint: Any kind of completely dried paint
Q. What items cannot be put in a dumpster?
There are certain materials that cannot be disposed of in one of our roll off dumpsters. They include:
- Toxic or hazardous waste, including biomedical or infectious waste
- Flammable, explosive, or chemical materials
- Solvents
- Wet Paint
- Aerosol cans & propane tanks
- Motor oils, lubricants, refrigerants, & antifreeze
- Batteries
- Fluorescent tubes
- No Liquids or Food of any kind
Please note that this is not a complete list. Our team at Geppert Recycling reserves the right to refuse any materials that are not acceptable for transport. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about what can and cannot be put into a dumpster – we’re always happy to help!
Q. How much waste can I put in a dumpster?
Volume matters more than weight – for example, masonry is heavier than cardboard, but they can take up the same amount of space. Customers cannot fill above the dumpster’s fill line, as there are legal limits for how much waste a truck can carry. It should be noted that concrete, dirt, or masonry cannot be mixed with trash in the same dumpster unless it is a very minimal amount.
Q. Do I need a permit to rent a dumpster?
Please note that many townships require a permit and customers should check with their local building or permit department. For your convenience here is the link to complete the form for a temporary street permit in Philadelphia. A permit is required by the city if the dumpster is going on the street in Philadelphia and they will cite the property owner if they fail to obtain one. Click here
Q. Will a roll off dumpster damage my driveway?
Residential driveways are not built to support the weight of heavy commercial trucks and equipment like roll off dumpsters. As the residential driveway can’t always support the weight of the dumpster, there is a slight possibility that the driveway will be damaged. However, we do everything in our power to minimize the risk of damage, and we have found that actual damage tends to be very rare.
